The actual origins for the name Big Ben are not entirely known, but there are a couple of theories. It has sometimes been referred to as St Stephen’s Tower, although this is technically incorrect as that is the name given another (smaller) tower over the main public entrance.īut of course, most people still refer to the clock and the overall structure itself as Big Ben. It has a rather nice harmony to it, given that the tower at the southern end of the building is called the Victoria Tower (after Queen Victoria).
